From conversations on AI-powered customer engagement and the future of eSIM, to real-world insights from the first SGP.32 implementations, the week was full of forward-looking discussions.

Here’s a look back at some of the highlights ➡️

At Mobile World Congress this year, the smartphone industry showcased both innovation and the challenges ahead.
 
On the show floor, vendors competed for attention with new concepts - from HONOR’s robot phone to Xiaomi’s hypercar concept, alongside new foldables from companies such as Motorola and ZTE. Foldables, AI-powered cameras, and even physical AI companions demonstrated how vendors are continuing to experiment with the smartphone experience.
 
However, the conversations across the industry were more pragmatic, according to Omdia Senior Analyst Runar Bjorhovde.
 
AI is moving beyond hype toward real user experience, raising an important question:
 
🔹If more than a billion users interact with AI apps, could the chatbot become the next interface for smartphones?
 
🔹At the same time, vendors are preparing for a potential market decline of 7–15%, forcing the industry to reassess strategy, business models, and where the next phase of growth will come from.

MWC Barcelona just celebrated 20 years, and walking the floor felt like stepping into a sci-fi future. 🤖 🧬

But amidst the flashing hypercars and AI avatars, our focus at Vyntelligence remained on a different kind of innovation:

AI for Purpose.

Impactful conversations with partners like Openreach, Vodafone, Amazon Web Services (AWS), and Infosys validated that we need innovation for the frontline heroes, the people climbing towers and trenching fibre in the toughest conditions to keep our world connected.

What an incredible week at MWC Barcelona 2026! Attending for the first time has been an eye-opening experience into the future of telecommunications. From industrializing Agentic AI to simplifying operations, the energy at the Amazon Web Services (AWS) booth was palpable.

I had the privilege of leading customer demo tours covering a wide range of strategic topics—from IT Migration & Modernization to Network Transformation. It’s been incredible to see firsthand how AI is transforming every layer of the industry: from the way we design and build networks to how we operate them with unprecedented autonomy. I specifically supported the delivery of two demos that highlight this shift in Customer Experience:
1️⃣ Next-gen Telecom Contact Center: we showcased how AI-powered virtual agents can combine Amazon Nova Sonic speech-to-speech models with device continuous monitoring technology to augment technical support. The impact is real: reducing support costs while boosting NPS 🚀 📱
2️⃣ Autonomous Customer Experience: a deep dive into AI-orchestrated customer care, network analysis, and billing workflows. Seeing multi-agent orchestration resolve service issues in real-time shows how we can transform CX while slashing operational costs and reducing churn.

One of the unnegotiable enbalers of #autonomousnetworks is #simulation which was in almost all demos this #MWC and to run that efficiently #GPU #acceleration is a must.

Here is another great work we have done together with #Infosys, #Dell and #VIAVI:

The platform which hosts the solution is Infosys’s #ISNA (Smart Network Assurance) and presents an #agentic #RAN #assurance solution deployed on #Dell AI infrastructure and #accelerated by #NVIDIA #GPUs designed to close the #realtime #reasoning, that does #anomalydetection, #RCA, and #validated #closedloop #remediation.

In the solution, continuous RAN telemetry is ingested from #VIAVI #AIRSG and KPI degradation is monitored which triggers a #hierarchical set of #agents, including a RAN #monitoring agent and a #massiveMIMO #interference detection agent, followed by an #RCA agent that correlates #topology and neighboring cell behavior to identify a radio transmitting excessive power, after which a #planning agent generates #remediation actions such as #beamweight and #transmitpower adjustments that are sent via #API to #VIAVI #AIRSG, where cluster‑level impact across affected and neighboring cells is calculated and KPI outcomes are returned, enabling either human‑approved or #autonomous execution; once approved, a configuration #execution agent applies the #change to the #network.

At MWC 2026, #Accenture’s brand message was clear: the future telecom leader will not just deploy AI networks—it will reinvent its entire value chain around AI. Accenture’s central theme was “reinventing the telecom value chain with AI.”

Infosys showcased its Frontier Telco vision focused on helping telecom operators move from legacy systems to AI-led, cloud-native, & autonomous enterprises.

Tech Mahindra showcased its global strategic partnership with Orange Business to accelerate AI-led digital transformation for enterprises and telecom operators.

HCLTech showcased an AI-driven collaboration with partners like Microsoft & telecom operators to develop telecom infrastructure & ecosystems.

Amdocs launched a global eSIM Traveler solution designed to help telecom operators retain roaming revenue.

Just back from an energising week at Mobile World Congress.
It was great to reconnect with customers, partners, and colleagues, and to have so many engaging conversations around the future of digital experiences, AI, and large-scale transformation. Events like MWC are a powerful reminder of how quickly our industry is evolving and the importance of collaboration in driving meaningful innovation.
A particular highlight was the continued momentum of our strategic partnership with Adobe. Together, Infosys and Adobe are helping organisations unlock more value from their digital experience platforms - bringing together deep industry expertise and Adobe’s powerful capabilities to deliver more personalised, scalable, and impactful customer experiences.

What an honor it was for Akamai to have a presence at 4YFN + MWC Barcelona this year.

MWC 2026 was all about “The IQ Era,” a new age of connected intelligence where human ideas, advanced technology, cloud, and real-world impact come together.

Across the event, we saw incredible innovation around AI-powered connectivity, cloud transformation, trusted networks, cybersecurity, and immersive technologies, alongside bold conversations about how enterprises are being reinvented through smarter digital experiences.

An intense and inspiring week at #MWC26 comes to an end in Barcelona.

Throughout the week, on stage and in conversations – at the Orange stand and across the halls – the energy and pace of innovation were remarkable. From our satellite connectivity announcement to AI-powered networks, the exhibition showcased how technology is transforming the way we connect. Robots showcasing physical AI in the aisles and interactive demos brought these innovations to life, alongside many exciting announcements from our technology partners.

I also had the chance to engage with many European leaders together with my peers, we shared out ambition to build a stronger framework in Europe to attract more investments and accelerate innovation.

From technology partners and startups to industry leaders and policymakers, these exchanges are crucial to turn shared ambition into concrete action for our customers and the digital future we aim to build.
The engagement and energy we all felt this week reflected a key point I shared in my keynote: the role of telcos must evolve from pure connectivity providers to architects of a trusted digital future. We will rise to the occasion!

Unless you're at Mobile World Congress this week, you probably don't wake up thinking about 6G. You care about whether your connection works and if a new technology will actually make your life easier.

But at MWC, we made some announcements alongside our industry partners that will directly improve your connectivity and here's why they matter:

5G powered entirely new experiences, helped small businesses compete, and allowed us to bring fast home broadband to nearly 8 million customers from a standing start. That didn’t happen by accident. T-Mobile built the first nationwide 5G Standalone network in 2020 that was cloud-native and ready for AI from day one.

6G builds on that foundation and is about far more than speed. It’s about making the network intelligent so it can support AI running on devices, at the edge, and in the cloud. That means smarter services, more responsive applications, better reliability, and entirely new use cases… like autonomous systems, real-time immersive experiences, and ideas probably nobody has even thought of yet.

For customers, that translates into something simple: more capability without more complexity. Technology that adapts to you, not the other way around.

For us, it means we can put our network lead to work again (just as we did with 5G) and turn technological advantage into real value. I fully believe that generational shifts reward those who build early, not those who wait.

So, we’re working with partners like Qualcomm, Nokia, NVIDIA, Ericsson and Deutsche Telekom to shape the standards that will shape the future. That’s how we turned 5G into real growth in customer share, in business, and in broadband. And that’s exactly how we intend to approach 6G.
